Megeve should have been the race of the season for me. I had every oppertunity to succeed and I blew it!
I was out in the first round of 8 finals. It was almost like I forgot that the top two people proceed through each round of heats… Too much of a ‘If you’re not first, your last’ mentality. So I had a scuffle with a Swiss competitor and I had to exit the track. If I was smart, I would have let her go in front and hung back in 2nd place, making it through the round to the quater finals.
Idiot.
I have learned from this that I need to ski smarter. Don’t worry about the result, just make it through the rounds!!!
Katya made it to the Quater finals, Jen also was knocked out in the Eight Finals, Scotty had a crash in training, hurting his ankle and decided to sit the race out and Anton didn’t have a great run on Qualifying day, missing out on the heats. Not the best event for our team, but everyone is looking forward to the next WC in Grasgehren, Germany Feb 2 and 3.
Once Megeve was over, I had two days of solid gym training with John marsden at the AIS in Italy. I have been joined by my husband Ben and we are now in Leogang, Austria. I plan on free skiing and gym training for the next few days. The Development SX team are based here so it is nice to have some familiar faces around.
Happy Skiing,
Sami (and Ben!)
